I am TFC – a True Filipino in Canada

I am one of the many Filipinos who migrated to Canada – the Land of Opportunity as others may call it.  I arrived in Canada with my husband and my children as “provincial nominees.”  And like many other fellow Filipinos whom I met here, we are here aiming for a better life, to look for greener pastures or should I say to seek opportunities which I am not sure if I can get or my children will get if we stay in our country.

In the Philippines, I am a “working housewife.” I was a human resource practitioner for eleven (11) years. Of course, I expected that I will be in the same field once I work here in Canada.  Fortunately, I was hired as an Administrative Assistant of an Executive Director in one of the government offices.  It may not be the exact job that I used to do but it is still an office job.  As much as I want to pursue or keep my first job, I had to give it up due to child care reasons.

Just like the other “new immigrants,” starting a new life and settling down is one of the HARDEST things and the most challenging part of moving here, eh.  There are priorities that you have to set, deciding factors that you have to consider and good things that you need to give up.  And this story of giving up a good opportunity is one of the many experiences that I will face and one of the many decisions that I have to make…

This is one of the reasons why, I came up with this blog… to share the ordinary and not so ordinary  experiences that I will encounter as an immigrant. As they say, there’s wealth of experiences that needs to be known and heard. And surely, there are other immigrants who have stories to tell and experiences to share, so let me tell mine and know how it is to start and live life as an immigrant in a foreign land.
